SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis is back in action this week, welcoming Cal Poly to the Aztec Tennis Center for a Friday morning matchup, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Ranked 22nd in the nation, the Aztecs hold a 7-1 record and are currently on a six-match winning streak. Last time out, they captured a top-20 victory on the road at No. 19 San Diego, toppling the Toreros in a 4-3 thriller. The team’s No. 22 ranking is the program’s highest since the 1992-93 season.
San Diego State’s win over San Diego was its second ranked victory of the season after taking down No. 68 Sacramento State 5-2.
Cal Poly enters the contest with a 6-3 overall record and 2-0 in the Big West. The Mustangs have won five straight, taking down Saint Mary’s, No. 74 Loyola Marymount, CSUN, Santa Clara and San Jose State.
The Aztecs have been dominant in doubles, winning the point in seven out of eight matches this season. Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley rank 42nd in the nation with a 5-1 record on the top court and 16-3 overall. They won their fifth straight top court matchup at San Diego, which earned Chan the Mountain West Player of the Week award and Turley Freshman of the Week honors. Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache have also been vital to the team’s success in doubles. The duo is on a 10-match winning streak and holds a perfect 7-0 record on court two and 12-1 overall.
This will be the 10th meeting of the two teams. The Aztecs are 9-0 in the all-time series, taking the last matchup 7-0 in February 2022.
Following Friday’s match, the team will kick off its conference schedule, hosting Fresno State at 10 a.m. on March 13.
