SAN DIEGO – San Diego State continued their strong showing in the program’s final season in the Mountain West with three athletes earning all-conference honors.

Xiamara Young dominated in both the long and triple jump on her way to a pair of gold medals. Her gold medal winning jump of 6.50m moved her into second all-time in SDSU’s record books and into a three-way tie for the fourteenth best mark in the NCAA. In the triple jump, Young eclipsed the 13.00m mark on all six of her attempts. The rest of the field combined only cleared 13.00m twice. On her final attempt she set a new personal best and the third best mark in program history clearing 13.48m. She now sits inside the top 10 in the NCAA for the triple jump.

On track, Aji Mbye’s performance in the 200-meter dash secured her all-conference spot. The junior from West Africa qualified for the finals in both the 60 and 200-meter sprints. In the 200m she secured a bronze medal behind a personal best 23.43 performance that also moved her into fourth place all-time among the Aztec’s record books.

Lastly, Isabella Nilsen also earned all-conference honors after a silver medal performance in the pole vault. Nilsen entered the weekend with a season and personal best of 4.20m. Nilsen would clear 4.09m leading to a silver medal tie with Grand Canyon’s Tatum Moku. A transfer from Oregon, Nilsen ended her indoor season with three consecutive top two finishes including a victory at the Battle Born Classic.

The Aztec’s outdoor season will begin later this week with the team scheduled to compete at the Beach Opener hosted by Long Beach State from March 6-7. The indoor schedule will also come to a close shortly with the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas scheduled to begin on March 13. Xiamara Young will be representing the Aztecs on the national stage in both the long and triple jump.
