AKRON, Ohio – Led by career days from Keira Doyle-Odenbach and Molly Jacobson, San Diego State lacrosse downed Akron 14-13 on the road on Sunday morning.
The Aztecs improve to 2-7 entering conference play while the Zips fall to 7-3 on the season.
San Diego State’s offense was led by midfielder Keira Doyle-Odenbach, who tied the sixth most goals in a single game by an Aztec with six. The sophomore also had three ground balls and one draw control.
Molly Jacobson also sparked the Aztec offense with a career high four goals, including two scored in the final three minutes to help push her team to a victory.
Macie Buell found scoring opportunities, putting two in the back of the net, while Lilah Turley and Tatum Neach each contributed with one apiece.
Sophomore Maya Tillman had her third game this season with three caused turnovers. She continues to lead the Big 12 in caused turnovers per game, averaging 1.86.
Senior Caitlin Boughton played all 60 minutes in the cage, recording seven saves off 30 shots faced with 13 goals allowed.
Sienna Hinchcliffe led the Zips with five points off four goals and one assist.
Adrianna Califano was between the pipes for the entirety of the game, recording six saves off 24 shots faced and 14 goals allowed.
The first period was back-and-forth, with the two teams tied at 3-3 at the end of 15 minutes with goals from Doyle-Odenbach, Turley and Neach. Thanks to two goals by Jacobson and one from Buell, the Aztecs outscored the Zips in the second period, going into the half up 6-5. Doyle-Odenbach dominated the third period, putting away four in 12 minutes to give the Scarlet and Black a 12-9 lead entering the final stanza, where they exchanged scores with the Zips, but successfully held on for a 14-13 victory.
