SEATTLE – San Diego State saw its three-game winning streak snapped after dropping an 11-2 decision to Washington on Sunday in the third game of an extended weekend series at Husky Ballpark.

The Aztecs (7-4) were unable to keep pace with the Huskies, who raced to an 8-0 lead after three innings and were never threatened. UW (2-9) capitalized on its opportunities throughout the contest, batting .632 (12-for-19) with two outs and posting 10 RBIs in that situation.

Max Farrell collected two of SDSU’s five hits and scored both runs off the bat of Adam Magpoc, who added to his team lead with 11 RBIs for the season.

However, the Aztecs were unable to solve the UW pitching duo of Gunnar Nichols and Tommy Brandenburg, who combined for 13 strikeouts.

Nichols (1-0) earned his first victory of the season after offsetting two hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts, allowing one run through six innings, while Brandenburg tossed the final three frames to record the save, yielding SDSU’s second run on three hits and one walk to go with a trio of strikeouts.

On the flip side, the Aztecs utilized five hurlers on the day, including Carson Johnson (0-2), who absorbed the loss after pitching just 2 1/3 innings.

Freshman Jake Frohn was a bright spot for the SDSU bullpen, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings with two hits and zero walks, while Evan Miranda gave up just one hit in his one-inning appearance in the seventh.

Limited to just one hit through the first five frames, the Aztecs finally broke through with a marker in the sixth when Farrell led off with a ground rule double and eventually scored on Magpoc’s groundout to second.

The same combination accounted for SDSU’s tally in the eighth, as Farrell reached on a leadoff bunt single before circling the bases on Magpoc’s double down the left-field line.

The Huskies’ No. 2-6 hitters combined for a .520 batting average (13-for-20) with nine RBIs. Ian Draper (3-for-5) drove in a game-high five runs, while Braeden Terry (2 RBIs) collected a game-high four hits. In addition, UW received two hits apiece from Mic Paul (3 runs), Daniel Porras and Ty Cowan.

The Huskies plated three runs in each of the first two innings, as Draper’s bases-clearing double with two outs in the second broke the contest open. UW soon extended its advantage in the third, featuring Ethan Swidler’s leadoff home run and Porras’ RBI single.

San Diego State wraps up its four-game series at Washington on Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. PT. Once again, the Aztecs-Huskies clash will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network+. SDSU is projected to start Alec Belardes (1-1), while UW is expected to counter with fellow right-hander Hayden Lewis (0-2).
