SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State softball team (17-11, 2-1 Mountain West) won for the second straight day against Colorado State (13-14, 1-2 MW) at SDSU Softball Stadium. The 2-0 shutout win gave the Aztecs the series win.
Key-annah Pu’a allowed just a single in the first inning. SDSU struck first in the bottom of the frame due to a trio of singles. Lala Macario started things off with a base hit to left field. Jade Ignacio reached base while Macario was thrown out on a fielder’s choice. With two outs, Jazmin Williams lined a single to right field, allowing Ignacio to reach third base. Angie Yellen followed her with another hit to right, scoring Ignacio to give the Aztecs a 1-0 lead. Yellen also stole second base but was stranded there.
Each team had a player hit by a pitch in the second inning but was unable to bring them in.
Faith Jordan entered the circle in the third inning and stranded two runners in scoring position with an inning-ending strikeout of Madi Eslinger.
p>In the fourth, Jordan worked around a two-out double and finished another scoreless inning off with a strikeout.Jordan kept the Rams off the board in the fifth inning despite hitting the leadoff batter and intentionally walking another hitter to set up the force out. In the bottom of the inning, Ally Dueker walked, reaching base for the second straight plate appearance.
Pu’a reentered the game in the sixth inning and escaped the inning after a pair of two-out singles. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, Yellen homered to right field, her third of the season and her second RBI of the game.
In the seventh inning, Pu’a finished off the win with a 1-2-3 inning including a strikeout.
THE NOTE
San Diego State pitchers allowed just three runs in 27 innings across four games during the week, good for a 0.78 team ERA.

San Diego State starts a two-week road trip by leaving California for the first time this year for a three-game weekend series at UNLV. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday and all three will be streamed on Mountain West Network.
