SAN DIEGO – San Diego State lacrosse is back at Aztec Field this weekend, welcoming Columbia to The Mesa for a noon contest on Sunday.

The Aztecs are 1-5 to start the 2026 campaign, most recently falling 18-6 to No. 17 Penn State. Their non-conference win came on February 12 against FDU, who San Diego State defeated 15-5.

Columbia holds a 5-2 overall record and 0-1 in the Ivy League. Last time out, the Lions took down Rider 19-4, prior to which they fell 16-6 to No. 12 Yale in their conference opener.

This will be the fourth meeting of the two programs. San Diego State leads the all-time series 2-1, taking the last matchup 20-6 on the road in 2022.

Sophomore attacker Mia Maechtel continues to be San Diego State’s leading scorer, totaling 18 points off 12 goals and six assists. Keira Doyle-Odenbach has also helped lead the Aztec offense with 11 goals, as well as 17 draw controls.

San Diego State ranks first in the Big 12 in caused turnovers (10.83) and ground balls (17.33) per game, putting pressure on its opponents on the defensive end. Sophomore Maya Tillman also leads the league in caused turnovers per game, averaging 1.83. She recorded a career high three against FDU and USC this season. Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Boughton is second in the conference in ground balls per game with an average of two.

Boughton has started between the pipes in all six games this season, recording 325 minutes, during which she’s collected 45 saves off 144 shots faced with 71 goals allowed.

Of Columbia’s 108 goals scored, sophomore attacker Maddie Brogan leads the Lions with 23 goals on the season. The second leading scorer, senior midfielder Cecelia Messner, has 20 goals and 19 assists.

Ava Kimche has been Columbia’s starting keeper through the first seven games. The junior has played 333 minutes in the cage, grabbing 46 saves off 169 shots faced and allowing 61 goals.

Following Sunday’s game, the Aztecs will hit the road again to take on Kent State on March 20 and Akron on the 22nd.
