COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State’s Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week, the league announced Friday. It is the second golfer-of-week award for the senior and first since April 6, 2023.
An Aztec has now won four MW awards this season, including sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) (two-time golfer of the week), Chokprajakchat (golfer of the week) and senior Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy) (golfer of the month in October).
Chokprajakchat finished in third place out of 96 golfers to pace SDSU earlier this week at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational. Chokprajakchat shot a 9-under-par 207 on the par-72, 7,033-yard San Diego Country Club, only trailing Brigham Young’s Kihei Akina (-14) and Long Beach State’s Alejandro De Castro (-13).
The 207 tied a collegiate 54-hole low for Chokprajakchat, while the third-place showing was the second-best finish of his collegiate career. Chokprajakchat shot three under-par rounds of 69, 68 and 70 when the round average for the tournament was 73.54. He had only three bogeys (or worse) for his 54 holes, the fewest in the tournament.
On the season, Chokprajakchat ranks second on the team with a 73.05 scoring average across seven tournaments and 21 rounds.
Next up for the Aztecs will be The Pauma Invitational, March 16-18, in Pauma Valley, California.
