FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – San Diego State’s Isabella Gomez finished eighth in the finals of the 3-meter springboard on Tuesday to lead a trio of Aztec divers at the NCAA Zone E Championships at Wall Aquatics Center on the campus of Northern Arizona University.
Gomez posted a two-round score of 577.40, just missing an automatic bid to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships by 7.25 points, as the top seven competitors in the 3-meter finals advance to the national meet. The seventh-place diver in Tuesday’s Zone E event amassed 584.60 points.
Earlier in the day, Gomez placed fourth in the preliminaries with a score of 300.30 but was unable to maintain her lofty perch in the final session.
Additionally, Belen Cano (242.95) completed the preliminary round in the 29th position, while Alina Skrocki (229.75) was slotted 37th.
The top-18 divers in the initial session earned a spot in the finals, with the 18th-place finsher compiling 268.70 points.
The NCAA Zone E Championships conclude on Wednesday for SDSU with the platform event. Along with Gomez, Cano and Skrocki, the Aztecs will also be represented by Sophia Hineline and Keira Kuderka in the preliminary round, which begins at 11:30 a.m. PDT, followed by the finals later in the afternoon.
The top seven divers in the platform finals will secure a spot in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, March 18-21, in Atlanta, Georgia.
