Aleksi Lofman Earns Mountain West Player of the Week

Aleksi Lofman earned his second Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award of the season, the conference announced on Wednesday.

SAN DIEGO – After going undefeated on the top court last week, picking up four wins in singles and doubles to help lead San Diego State to a 4-2 victory over No. 67 Cal Poly and a 4-0 sweep against Pacific, Aleksi Lofman earned his second Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week award of the season, the conference announced on Wednesday.

The junior transfer out of LSU took the top spot alongside freshman William Kleege in doubles competition. The team first took down Luc Hoeijmans and Jovan Lubbe out of Cal Poly by a score of 6-4. The following day, the duo picked up another 6-4 victory against Pacific’s Christof Schaertlin Coffey and Reuben De Klerk to clinch the doubles point for the Aztecs. Lofman and Kleege now hold a perfect 5-0 record on the top court and 8-1 for the entire season.

In singles competition, Lofman rallied from behind after dropping the first set to Hoeijmans, taking down the Mustang 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on court one. He then clinched the shut out against Pacific with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Jonty Giesen. Lofman is now 4-2 in the singles top spot.

The Aztecs improved to 6-8 on the season following their back-to-back victories. Next up, they head down the road to the Hogan Tennis Center to face No. 47 Harvard in a neutral site match at 2 p.m. on March 17.
