SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (24-4, 18-1) defeated Wyoming (9-19, 6-13) 70-51 inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon.
“It’s always great to win on senior day,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “We had a few lulls, but we were able to answer back when Wyoming went on a run.”
SDSU was led by Naomi Panganiban, who poured in 20 points. Kaelyn Hamilton scored a career-high 18 points on an efficient 7-for-8 shooting, which included a perfect 3-for-3 from three.
The Aztecs got off to a slow start and found themselves down 11-6. SDSU then reeled off a 14-0 run with the first eight points coming from Hamilton. The Aztecs held a 21-point lead at the halftime break and forced 14 Cowgirl turnovers in the first half.
SDSU led by as much as 24 points, but Wyoming was able to cut their deficit to seven points early in the fourth quarter. The Aztecs then responded with a 13-0 run to put the game away.
The Aztecs shot 46% from the field and 41% from three (9-for-22) while holding the Cowgirls to 37% shooting and forcing 20 turnovers which led to 27 points.
Wyoming was led by Jane Rumpf, who scored 27 points with six made threes.
