AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Five Aztecs scored in double figures, led by BJ Davis with 16, as San Diego State cruised to an 88-54 win over Air Force at Clune Arena on Saturday evening.
The Aztecs (17-6, 11-2 Mountain West) remain tied for first place in the Mountain West standings while Air Force falls to 3-20 overall and 0-11 in conference play.
The Falcons led by five in the early minutes of the game before the Aztecs scored 11 unanswered points, seven of which came from Davis. A dunk by Pharaoh Compton off an Air Force turnover gave the Aztecs the lead with 15:24 on the clock, which they would hold until the final buzzer. San Diego State’s defense suffocated the Falcons, who turned the ball over 22 times, which the Aztecs capitalized on for 32 points. San Diego State launched into a 23-2 run, going up 23-7 by the 8:43 mark. Air Force’s Ethan Greenberg tried to stifle the Aztecs with a three pointer out of a timeout, but the Scarlet and Black continued to put the pressure on with six straight fastbreak points from Miles Heide and Miles Byrd. Davis put the exclamation mark on a dominant first half with a three from the logo at the buzzer, giving San Diego State a 45-26 lead headed into the break.
The Aztecs never led by less than 18 in the second half and were ahead by as many as 37 with three minutes to go, as they won handily, 88-54.
In addition to Davis, who posted 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal, Heide, Reese Dixon-Waters, Jeremiah Oden and Compton also finished in double figures.
