Aztecs Cruise to 81-52 Win at San Jose State

The San Diego State women’s basketball team (18-4, 12-1) cruised to an 81-52 win at San Jose State (3-21, 1-12) Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs shot 54 percent from the floor, dished out 18 assists and never trailed in the game.

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (18-4, 12-1) cruised to an 81-52 win at San Jose State (3-21, 1-12) Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs shot 54 percent from the floor, dished out 18 assists and never trailed in the game.

“We’ve been the standard in the league through the first half, and we wanted to get back to that,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said, referring to them coming off their first conference loss of the year. “We did a good job of that today and our bench stepped up.”

Four Aztecs scored in double-digits, led by Kennedy Lee’s 16 points. Naomi Panganiban scored 13 on an efficient 5-for-7 shooting and dished out four assists. Nat Martinez, who is from nearby San Leandro and was playing in front of friends and family, had 12 points and four assists. Bailey Barnhard added 11 points with a team-high six rebounds. SDSU is now 32-2 since the beginning of last year when three or more players score 10+ points.

The Aztecs began the game on a 13-1 run and forced the Spartans to miss their first seven shots. They would lead by 11 points at the end of the first quarter and maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.

SDSU was especially efficient in the second half, shooting 60% from the field, 55% from three and outscored the Spartans 42-30. 13 of the Aztecs’ 18 assists came in the second half.

The Aztecs outrebounded SJSU 36-29 and outscored them 36-22 in the paint.

SDSU has won 14 of their last 15 games and 19 of 20 against Mountain West opponents.

SDSU swept San Jose State, winning their games by 28 and 29 points. The Aztecs are 32-11 (.744) all-time vs. the Spartans, their highest winning percentage against any Mountain West team.
