SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis earned its third win of the 2026 campaign on Sunday, sweeping Long Beach State 4-0 at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs improve to 3-1 overall while The Beach falls to 2-4 on the season.

The Aztecs captured the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. Playing on court one, Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, ranked 32nd in the nation, took down Paulina Franco Martinessi and Cecelia Costa by a score of 6-1. Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache then clinched the point with a 6-2 victory over Daria Malescu and Johanna Hiesmair in the second spot. Gloria Alogo and Liisa Varul were at a 5-2 deficit against Thea Jagore and Pamela Badillo on court three when the point was earned.

San Diego State took courts one, three and four in singles competition to secure the sweep. In the top spot, No. 107 Jo-Yee Chan rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jagare. Alogo then extended the lead for the Aztecs, defeating Costa by a score of 6-4, 6-0.

Clemens was the clincher for the second consecutive match, taking down Malescu 6-3, 6-2 on court four.

All three remaining Aztecs led in their respective matches, with Martinache ahead 6-4, 1-2 over Diana De Simone on court two, Varul leading Badillo 6-4, 3-2 on court five and Tirunelveli with a score of 6-3, 3-4 over Martinessi in the sixth spot.

“I’m really happy with the win today and the way the girls performed in both doubles and singles,” said Head Coach Nicolas Vinel. “I thought it was a very complete performance. Now, we’re going to take a couple of days for recovery, and then get back to practice and keep working on things we can do better. The girls played really well, so we’re going to keep building on that for the next two matches coming up.”

Next up, San Diego State will host Loyola Marymount at the Aztec Tennis Center on Feb. 13, beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a 11 a.m. matchup against Hawaii on Feb. 16.
