PHOENIX, Ariz. – The San Diego State women’s basketball team’s (17-4, 11-1) 13-game win streak was snapped with a 57-44 loss at Grand Canyon (6-13, 8-5) Wednesday evening. It was San Diego State’s first loss against a Mountain West team since last February, a span of 19 games, and their first road loss of the season.
SDSU shot 30% from the floor, made just two three-pointers and turned the ball over 19 times. Despite that, they were tied with 8:30 left in the game before Grand Canyon closed out the game with a 22-9 run.
“GCU was the better team tonight. They outplayed us in all areas,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “It looked like we were playing in slow motion and it’s very uncharacteristic for us to turn it over 19 times. We just didn’t do enough to win.”
Naomi Panganiban led the way with 15 points and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line. She had missed just one free throw in Mountain West play and is 21-for-21 across the last three games.
The Aztecs’ offensive rhythm was off from the beginning. They missed five of their first six shots and had four turnovers in the first five minutes and went down 11-4.
SDSU was able to hold the ‘Lopes to three field goals in the second quarter and 21 first half points.
The Aztecs took their first lead in the third quarter and went up by as much as four with 2:58 left in the third before. The score was tied entering the fourth quarter.
“They made some big shots and got some big rebounds and that was the key for them in the fourth quarter,” Terry-Hutson explained.
GCU went on a 13-1 run to put the game on ice.
The ‘Lopes were led by Chloe Mann’s 18 points.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs had 19 turnovers and six assists.

SDSU’s 19-game win streak vs. Mountain West teams was a school record and the fifth longest in MW history.
