Two Aztec Duos Advance at Pac Coast Championships

Two of the four Aztec teams made it through the first two rounds and into Saturday’s round of 16.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis sent seven student-athletes to the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Friday. Two of the four Aztec teams made it through the first two rounds and into Saturday’s round of 16.

In the round of 64, Brock Anderson, who competed alongside former Aztec Alexander Mandma, cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Occidental’s Eugen Andres and Ronald Chen. Denis Maijorov and Finn Willman also advanced in the bracket, taking down Conor Dauer and Ian Lee 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). William Kleege and Alexi Lofman picked up their fifth straight win, defeating Nevada’s Axel Huysmans and Sebastiano Cressi 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Imran Daniel Hazli came up short 2-6, 6-4, [9-11] against Ball State’s Jeremy Milette and Jenson Bicanic.

In the afternoon matches, Kleege and Lofman downed Jasper Chen and Ian Yang 6-3, 6-1. The duo holds a perfect 6-0 record when playing together. They will be joined in the round of 16 by Anderson and Mandma, who took their match 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), [10-7] over USC’s Sklar Phillips and Matteo Huarte. Maijorov and Willman fell 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 against Rudy Quan and Bengt Reinhard out of UCLA.

The Aztecs will be back in action at 10:30 a.m.
