RENO, NEV. –San Diego State Track and Field began their first day of competition at the 2026 Mountain West Indoor Championships. The Aztecs saw action in both the pole vault and 200-meter dash preliminary heats. San Diego State earned their first medal of the championships while also having multiple athletes advance to the final round of the 200-meter dash.
San Diego State had five athletes compete in the pole vault with Isabella Nilsen entering the weekend as the third seeded athlete with a mark of 4.20m. The pair of Sydney Ash and Emily Manship posted new indoor personal best, each posted a 3.84m vault. Peyton Bedrosian cracked the top 10, earning a ninth-place finish. Junior Jordan Leveque had a strong showing earning a fourth-place finish behind a personal best 3.99m vault. Leveque was the first Aztec to officially score points at the championship meet. The highlight of the day was Isabella Nilsen’s silver medal finish. Nilsen moved into the final three competitors with a 4.09m vault, the third time this season she cleared the 4.00m mark. She secured the Aztec’s first medal of the 2026 championship meet.
On the track, five more Aztecs participated in the 200-meter dash preliminaries. The first heat of the afternoon featured the pair of Olivia Hicks and Laraigh Allen. Allen crossed the finish line at 23.81, setting a new indoor personal record. In the fifth heat, Aji Mbye rolled to a 23.47 finish. That was the second fastest time an Aztec has run all season. Wrapping up on the track, freshmen Kelia Bentham and Shari Hurdman were the first two finishers in the sixth heat. Bentham’s 23.68 performance stands as a new personal best. The trio of Mbye, Allen and Bentham all qualified for the finals giving SDSU three competitors in the eight-person finale.
Day two of the championships is primed to begin at 11:30 a.m. PST. The Aztecs will have athletes competing across multiple events including the long jump, mile prelims, 60-meter hurdles prelims, 400-meter dash prelims, 60-meter dash prelims and 800-meter run prelims. All events will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
