SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Rohan Lettow was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week after tossing a gem in the Aztecs’ 3-0 victory over Brigham Young at the Tony Gwynn Legacy on Feb. 20. The announcement was made Monday at the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
With his honor, Lettow gives the Aztecs their third MW weekly award winner after fellow hurler Carson Johnson received the same distinction on Feb. 16, while teammate Max Farrell garnered conference Freshman of Week accolades.
A junior transfer from Arizona State, Lettow earned his first collegiate victory last Friday after striking out a career-high 10 batters for the second straight start, yielding just two hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. Reliever Aidan Russell kept the Cougars off the scoreboard the rest of the way to complete the combined shutout.
Lettow allowed just one runner to reach scoring position during his stint and retired nine hitters on three pitches or less.
For the season, Lettow leads the Mountain West with 20 strikeouts, which is tied for fourth nationally as of Feb. 23. He also tops the squad with 10 2/3 innings pitched and has compiled a team-best 2.53 ERA among qualifiers.
San Diego State embarks on a lengthy road swing this week, starting Tuesday, Feb 24, when it faces No. 1 UCLA in a midweek clash before traveling to the Pacific Northwest for a four-game series at Washington, Feb. 27-March 2.
