Aztecs Surge into the Lead at Mountain West Championships

The San Diego State swim and dive program took over first place in the team standings on Thursday at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships after completing another series of strong performances in Houston, Texas.

HOUSTON – The San Diego State swim and dive program took over first place in the team standings on Thursday at the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championships after completing another series of strong performances at CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.

Seeking their fifth consecutive conference title, the Aztecs surged into the top spot with 594 points through 10 events, grabbing a wide 64-point lead over second-place UNLV.

Highlighting Thursday’s action was San Diego State’s 200 freestyle relay team of Alli Mann, Kaydence Bispo, Melanie Quinto and Alyssa Schiller, who combined for a silver medal with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:28.74, which ranks fourth in program history.

The Aztecs’ trademark depth was on full display throughout, as the Scarlet and Black recorded eight top-seven placements in “A” finals competition for the day, including Mann’s second-place swim of 52.56 the 100 fly, which is slotted second on the school’s all-time charts.

In all, SDSU logged seven top-10 program times or marks on the event schedule, including Reka Nyiradi, who placed fourth in the 400 individual medley after completing the race at 4:13.22, which ranks fifth in school history, while Amber Janky finished seventh at 4:17.02, which is slotted ninth.

Additionally, Bispo placed fourth in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 1:47.30, good for eighth on the program’s all-time performance list.

For the second day in a row, the Scarlet and Black advanced three divers to the final round, as the trio of Isabella Gomez, Belen Cano and Alina Skrocki each surpassed NCAA zone qualifying standards on the 3-meter springboard.

Gomez captured a bronze medal with a career-best score of 327.95, which ranks seventh in school history, while Bano set a collegiate-best of her own with a fourth-place total of 324.95, which is slotted ninth, followed by Skrocki, who took seventh (299.65).

In consolation finals, Quinto finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.90, while Elisa Branca duplicated the feat in the 400 IM after completing a swim of 4:18.70. Elsewhere, Liv Peebles placed fifth in the “B” finals of the 100 fly with a sprint of 54.19, while Abby Storm took eighth at 54.95.

The Mountain West Championships continue on Friday with the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and team diving event, along with the finals of the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay. Preliminaries are set to get underway at 10:30 a.m. CT/8:30 a.m. PT, with the finals slated to commence at 6 p.m. CT/4 p.m. PT. Links to streaming video and live results are available on GoAztecs.com.
