SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis checks in at No. 22 in the nation in this week’s ITA Team Rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday. The computer-generated rankings list the top 75 programs in the country, as well as the top 90 doubles teams and 125 singles players. This is the highest team ranking for the Aztecs since the 1992-93 campaign.

5-1 on the season, the Aztecs have recorded shutout victories against Point Loma, UC San Diego, Long Beach State and Hawai’i. They also took down Loyola Marymount 4-2 at home. Their lone defeat came on the road at No. 8 UCLA by a score of 5-2.

Also in the rankings this week are Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley who are listed at 38th in the country in doubles. The duo holds a 14-3 overall record, including 3-1 in dual matches while playing in the top spot. The two Aztecs captured an ITA Conference Masters doubles championship in the fall, qualifying for their first career NCAA Championships.

Chan also leads San Diego State in singles, taking the top court in all six matches so far this season. The senior is 3-1 in dual contests and 14-5 overall. Her performance in doubles and singles in the team’s sweeping victory over Long Beach State earned Chan her first career Mountain West Player of the Week nod.

One of San Diego State’s other top performers, Jayna Clemens, is currently on a four-match winning streak in singles, holding a 5-1 dual record and 12-4 on the season. Clemens primarily plays in the third and fourth spots. When teamed up with Ninon Martinache, the two Aztecs boast a perfect 5-0 dual record on court two, as well as a 10-1 record for the season.

The team will be back in action on Sunday to welcome No. 68 Sacramento State to the Aztec Tennis Center for an 11 a.m. matchup.
