SAN DIEGO – After going 2-0 on the top court in singles and doubles to lead San Diego State men’s tennis to a 4-3 victory over Utah on Saturday, Aleksi Lofman has garnered Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week accolades, the conference announced on Wednesday. This is the first conference award for the first-year Aztec.
The junior transfer out of LSU made his third appearance in the top spot in singles and his first in doubles against the Utes over the weekend, clinching both the doubles point and the match for the Aztecs. In doubles competition, Lofman paired up with freshman William Kleege for the first time this season. The duo battled Dante Teramo and Balthazar Huss to a tiebreaker, coming out on top with a 7-6 (7-2) win to capture the first point of the match. It was a crucial win for the Aztecs, who were tied 6-6 on court three when the point was earned.
San Diego State led Utah 3-2 after taking courts two and four in singles play. Lofman held off Teramo in a 7-6 (7-3) victory in the first set before clinching the match 6-3 in the second set, earning his first win on the top court.
The Aztecs improved to 2-7 on the season following their win over the Utes. Next up, they head to UC Irvine to take on the Anteaters on Feb. 22, beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
