SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s basketball earned their third consecutive win, defeating Nevada on Steve Fisher Court by a final score of 71-57. The Aztecs have moved to 12-2 in conference play and 17-6 overall.
Nevada would strike first with a three-point shot from Tayshawn Comer. The Aztecs responded with a Miles Heide layup that kickstarted a San Diego State scoring run. With 17:34 on the clock, Reese Dixon-Waters erupted with seven points in a two-minute span giving his team a five-point lead they would never relinquish. Nevada did score nine points late in the half to pull within seven points before BJ Davis and Miles Byrd scored four points in the closing seconds of the half. Dixon-Waters finished the first half with 11 points while Pharaoh Compton added seven points.
The Wolf Pack rallied early in the second frame of play holding the Aztecs to just two points in almost four and a half minutes. With 14:44 on the clock a BJ Davis three pointer opened an 18-1 scoring run in favor of Brian Dutcher’s team that put them up 56-39. It was a balanced half of scoring with BJ Davis leading the way with 10 points in 15 second half minutes.
Dixon-Waters extended his streak of double-digit scoring games to 14 with a game high 20 points. Magoon Gwath was fantastic in his return to action adding 13 points in just 14 minutes while not missing a shot from the floor or free throw line. Most impressively, he was dominant on the defensive side of the ball swatting away five shots for a season high five blocks. Heide pulled down a team best seven rebounds while BJ Davis five assists came alongside his 14 points.
As a team San Diego State’s defense was once again stellar. They limited Nevada to under 33 percent shooting from the floor and a 25 percent conversion rate from three. The Aztecs also forced 14 turnovers that led to 23 points.

San Diego State will be back in Viejas Areana next week as Grand Canyon is scheduled to visit the Aztecs on Tuesday, February 17. SDSU fell to the Lopes in a tightly contested game in Phoenix, Arizona that came down to the final second and possession. Davis and Dixon-Waters combined to score 23 points while Miles Byrd stuffed the stat sheet with eight rebounds, three blocks, four steals and three assists the last time the two teams met. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
