SAN DIEGO – After going 2-0 on the top court in singles and doubles to help lead the Aztecs to a 4-0 sweep of Long Beach State, senior Jo-Yee Chan has been named the Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. This is the first player of the week nod for the second-year Aztec.

San Diego State earned its third shutout win of the season on Sunday, advancing to 3-1 overall. Chan currently leads the Aztecs in both singles and doubles victories. Ranked 107th in the ITA, the Sugar Hill, Ga. native holds a 13-5 singles record. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Long Beach State’s Thea Jagare in the top spot. In doubles competition, Chan played alongside freshman partner Vessa Turley. The Aztec duo currently ranks 32nd in the nation and leads the team with a 12-3 overall record. Chan and Turley took the top court for the Scarlet and Black with a dominant 6-1 win over Paulina Franco Martinessi and Cecelia Costa.

Chan looks to lead San Diego State to its second consecutive regular season Mountain West Championship this year. Conference play begins on March 13 against Fresno State.

Next up, the team returns to the Aztec Tennis Center to host Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. on Friday.
