Aztecs Knock Off Nevada 67-54

The Aztecs (17-3, 11-0) extended their win streak to 13 games with a wire-to-wire 67-54 win over Nevada (7-14, 3-8) inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. Balanced scoring and a 20-5 second-half run helped put the Wolf Pack away and keep SDSU a perfect 11-0 in Mountain West play.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team (17-3, 11-0) extended their win streak to 13 games with a wire-to-wire 67-54 win over Nevada (7-14, 3-8) inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. Balanced scoring and a 20-5 second-half run helped put the Wolf Pack away and keep the Aztecs a perfect 11-0 in Mountain West play.

“We just keep finding different ways to win, which is a sign of a good team,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “This team is like a unicorn in that every game is different. Today we had one of our best games as far as executing in the half court.”

Four Aztecs scored in double figures, led by Naomi Panganiban’s 16 points. Panganiban is 15-for-15 from the line over the last two games.

Bailey Barnhard was limited to 14 minutes due to foul trouble but still managed to score 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting, while Nala Williams and Kaelyn Hamilton each chipped in 11 points.

The Aztecs made their first five shots to grab a 10-3 and then never surrendered the lead. Although Nevada kept it close and trailed by just three points at the half.

Hamilton had nine of her 11 points in the third quarter as the Aztecs went on a 20-5 run to put the game out of reach. SDSU led by as much as 20 points before Nevada finished the game on a 7-0 run.

The Aztecs held the Wolf pack to 33 percent shooting; their 13th time holding their opponent under 40 percent from the field. SDSU is 13-0 in those games.
