LOS ANGELES – San Diego State advanced three divers to the finals of the 1-meter springboard Friday during the first wave of action at the Bruin Invitational on the UCLA campus.
Isabella Gomez led the Aztec delegation with a two-round total of 517.50 points to finish 13th in the event. The junior transfer from New Mexico was slotted ninth in the preliminaries with a mark of 264.75 before tumbling four places in the finals.
Likewise, Alina Skrocki slipped one notch into the 17th position with an aggregate of 493.75 points after a preliminary score of 249.85.
In addition, Belen Cano held steady in the 18th spot, amassing 486.85 points for the day, including a season-high mark of 248.75 in the opening session.
Utah’s Kathryn Grant (590.05) captured the event title, besting runner-up Eden Chen of UCLA (580.40), while Iowa’s Lainey Woodward (571.70), UCLA’s Molly Brascia (565.05) and Northern Arizona’s Grace Wesche (545.80) rounded out the top five.
The SDSU contingent also included Sophia Hineline, who completed the preliminaries in the 21st position with a season-high mark of 237.40, followed by Meja Palmer (24th – 230.20) and Lucy Chavez (31st – 205.70).
The Bruin Diving Invitational continues Saturday at Spieker Aquatics center with the preliminary round of the women's 3-meter springboard, starting at 10:30 a.m. PT.
Along with host UCLA, the Aztecs are battling divers from several schools this weekend, including California Baptist, Hawai’i, Idaho, Iowa, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine, UNLV, USC and Utah.
