SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s soccer head coach Ryan Hopkins has announced the hiring of Jamie Reid as an assistant coach. Reid most recently served as an assistant coach at San Jose State for the past two seasons.
“Jamie is a wonderful addition to our staff that will add key insights to player development, team tactics, recruiting and culture building,” Hopkins said. “We have played San Jose State four times over the last two years, and I came away very impressed with their attacking style and the development of the team during his time there. His focus will mainly be on the offensive side of the ball, and I know our players will relish the chance to work with a coach with his accolades and voice.”
During his tenure at SJSU, the Spartans made the regular conference tournament championship in both his seasons. Reid was instrumental in building top recruiting classes, as well as sending numerous players to the professional ranks during his time in San Jose.
“I am honored and grateful to be named an assistant coach at San Diego State University,” Reid said. “I want to thank Coach Hopkins for the opportunity to join one of the nation’s top soccer programs. I’m excited to work with this talented team on the SDSU campus and help build toward continued success. I also want to thank San Jose State head coach Simon Tobin and associate head coach Jesus Sanchez for a memorable journey. I’m thrilled to join the San Diego State University community.”
Reid recruited and mentored numerous players who received All-WAC Conference accolades, including Angel Iniguez, the 2024 WAC Offensive Player of the year. During the 2025 season, Reid helped place four players on the United Soccer Coaches All Far West Region First Team and one on the Second Team, including Gilberto Rivera, who was picked in the MLS SuperDraft by the Houston Dynamo that year.
Before SJSU, Reid spent four seasons as the associate head coach at Cañada College. During his first season in 2019, Reid helped guide the Colts to an overall record of 14-7-1 and made the California Community Collegiate Athletic Association (CCCAA) Regionals. Also, in 2019 the team secured a top 25 ranking in the NJCAA DIII national rankings. Reid also coached and mentored seven All-Americans and five Scholar All-Americans in his time with the Colts, including Ryan Paiva and Kalani Napoleon, who were the only freshmen in the state to receive the award.
While at Cañada College, Reid was also an academy coach at the MLS NEXT platform for club De Anza Force SC.
Reid currently has a USSF "C" license, FA level 1 & 2, and FA level 1 in talent identification.
A native of London, England, Reid earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from CSU East Bay
