LOS ANGELES – San Diego State’s Isabella Gomez and Alina Skrocki advanced to the finals of the 3-meter springboard to highlight Saturday’s action for the Aztecs at the Bruin Diving Invitational on the UCLA campus.
For the second straight day, the SDSU contingent was paced by Gomez, a junior transfer from New Mexico who finished eighth out of 18 divers with a two-round score of 556.10, surpassing an NCAA zone qualifying standard in the preliminaries with 291.60 points.
In addition, fellow classmate Skrocki was slotted 17th in the event with an aggregate total of 492.50, bolstered by a mark of 264.40 points in the early session.
Eden Cheng of the host Bruins (602.60) captured the event title on Saturday, besting teammate Molly Brascia (580.80) and Lovisa Gustavsson of Hawai’i (576.95) for the crown, while USC’s Jenna Jagielski (574.70) and Northern Arizona’s Margaret Wesche (572.70) rounded out the top five.
The Scarlet and Black was also represented by freshman Sophia Hinline, who finished the preliminary round in 20th place with 240.45 points, followed by fellow classmates Belen Cano (23rd – 231.00), Meja Palmer (24th – 226.10) and Lucy Chavez (33rd – 196.10).
San Diego State wraps up competition at the Bruin Diving Invitational with the platform event on Sunday, starting with the preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. PT.
Along with host UCLA, the Aztecs are facing divers from several schools this weekend, including California Baptist, Hawai’i, Idaho, Iowa, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine, UNLV, USC and Utah.
