SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis is gearing up to kick off its spring season this weekend, heading up to the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles for a Sunday doubleheader against USC and UC San Diego. The Aztecs will first face the 19th-ranked Trojans at 10 a.m. PT, followed by a 1 p.m. matchup against the Tritons.

The Aztecs are coming off a fall season in which they amassed 18 singles wins and 22 doubles victories. Sophomore Denis Maijorov and freshman William Kleege led the team in doubles competition, boasting a 9-2 record. Maijorov also led the Aztecs in singles, winning five matches in the fall.

USC enters the 2026 season ranked 19th in the country. The Trojans finished 16-11 in 2025, earning an NCAA Tournament berth. Sophomore returner Niels Hoffman currently leads the team in singles play after recording eight wins in the fall.

The two programs last met on Jan. 20, 2025, with the Trojans taking the match 7-0.

UC San Diego returns three athletes and welcomes seven newcomers after a 7-14 2025 season. This will be the second consecutive year the Tritons and Aztecs are meeting in a season opener. Last spring, the teams played in a doubleheader at the Aztec Tennis Center, where San Diego State won both matches by scores of 4-1 and 4-2.

Following Sunday’s action, the Aztecs will look ahead to a Jan. 15 road contest at Stanford. The team will host its home opener on Jan. 25 against Loyola Marymount at 11 a.m. PT.
