SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State football team has accepted an invitation to play North Texas in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 3:45 p.m. MT (2:45 p.m. PT). The game will be played at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and will air nationally on ESPN and San Diego Sports 760, the home of San Diego State athletics.

The Aztecs finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, including a 6-2 mark in Mountain West play. SDSU tied with Boise State, New Mexico and UNLV atop the league standings, but was left out of a MW Championship appearance last week because of computer rankings. BS, which San Diego State beat, 17-7, in the regular season, captured the MW Championship with a 38-21 win over UNLV.

The six-win improvement for the Aztecs in regular-season play from last year (3-9) to this season (9-3) matches the largest win increase by SDSU in program history (since 1921), joining a six-win improvement from 1960 (1-6-1) to 1961 (7-2-1).

San Diego State is in a bowl game for the first time since 2022, but for the 13th time in the last 16 seasons (missed 2023 and 2024, withdrew from consideration in the COVID shortened 2020 season).

North Texas, meanwhile, is 11-2 and 25th in the College Football Playoff Rankings, and also 23rd in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and receiving votes in the coaches poll. The 11 victories are the most in Mean Green history.

The Aztecs are 6-1 all-time against UNT, but the two teams haven’t met since a 30-12 win in 1975.

SDSU is playing in its 21st bowl all-time and 17th in its Division I era.

San Diego State is playing in the New Mexico Bowl for the second time after beating Central Michigan, 48-11, in the 2019 bowl.

Ticket information will be released soon.
