Aztec Divers Complete Day One at Riverside Collegiate Invite

San Diego State divers Alina Skrocki and Isabella Gomez each recorded a runner-up finish on Friday to lead the Aztecs at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational.

LOS ANGELES – San Diego State’s Alina Skrocki and Isabella Gomez each posted a runner-up finish on Friday to lead the Aztecs at the Riverside Collegiate Diving Invitational at Spieker Aquatics Center on the UCLA campus.

Gomez opened the day with a second-place performance on the 3-meter springboard, amassing a total of 273.05 points, which featured a score of 52.65 on her second dive of the event, the 405C.

Meanwhile, Skrocki was slotted second in 1-meter action, recording a mark of 256.30 points, topping Gomez, who took third after compiling 247.95 points. Skrocki opened the session with a score of 48.00 for the 403B dive.

Other Aztec highlights from Friday included a fourth-place effort from Keira Kuderka (240.70) on the 3-meter board, edging teammate Sophia Hineline (239.35), who placed fifth, followed in succession by Skrocki (233.10) and Lucy Chavez (228.45), the latter of whom posted a season best, while Meja Palmer (213.85) finished ninth.

Palmer also took sixth in 1-meter competition with a total of 223.45 points, followed by Hineline (7th, 217.50), Chavez (8th, 213.15) and Kuderka (9th, 203.90).

Molly Brascia of host UCLA was a double winner on Friday, capturing the 3-meter title (317.40) before claiming the 1-meter crown (274.30).

San Diego State wraps up its weekend stay in Los Angeles on Saturday when it competes from the platform tower, starting with the preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. PT.

The Riverside Invitational was originally slated for the Riverside Aquatics Center at Riverside City College; however, on-going facility maintenance necessitated the move.
