COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nat Martinez was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Martinez scored a game-high 22 points in San Diego State’s 64-53 win at Kansas State last Wednesday, the Aztecs’ first road win vs a power conference team since 2018.
Martinez (San Leandro, Calif.) was 6-for-10 from the field, 6-for-9 from three and 4-for-5 from the line. She also had two assists, two rebounds and one steal and led the team with a +20 plus/minus. She scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half and was 4-for-5 from three.
This is Martinez’s second time scoring 20 or more points against a power conference team this season (Penn State) and third time in her career (Wisconsin last year).
This is her first Mountain West Player of the Week award. She was named the conference’s Freshman of the Week three times last year.
The Aztecs open conference play Wednesday night at Fresno State.
