SAN DIEGO – Following the unveiling of their Mountain West Tournament championship banner from last year, the San Diego State women’s basketball team cruised to a 95-35 win over Cal State San Marcos, their largest margin of victory ever in a home opener.

Playing in front of a crowd of 2,528 fans, five Aztecs scored in double-figures and eight scored at least seven points.

“We felt the energy in the building,” Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson said after the game. “It was really fun to celebrate and raise a banner and get our rings, but we’ve got to put that aside and get to work on getting new rings and banners.”

The Aztecs were efficient on both ends of the floor. They shot 52 percent from the field while holding the Cougars to 26 percent shooting and forcing 24 turnovers.

Nat Martinez led the team with 14 points, Naomi Panganiban had 13, and Nala Williams chipped in 12. Alyssa Jackson, who redshirted last year, had a career-high 11 on 4-for-4 shooting and freshman Kendall Mosely added 11 with three three-pointers.

The Aztecs wasted no time and jumped out to a 24-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, holding the Cougars to two field goals. SDSU would lead by double-digits for the rest of the game.

SDSU took advantage of their size and outscored the Cougars 42-12 in the paint while outrebounding them 40-24.

The Aztecs had 19 assists and nine different players recorded at least one assist. Nala Williams had a game-high five assists.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Aztecs held the Cougars to single-digits in three of the four quarters, and SDSU scored 20 or more points in every quarter.
