SAN DIEGO – San Diego State’s Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley are just one win away from a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championships after surviving and advancing to Saturday’s semifinals at the ITA Conference Masters with two wins on Friday. The duo will return to action at the Barnes Tennis Center at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Aztecs downed Tarleton State’s Aya Ishii and Maria Costano in the round of 16, earning a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) victory on Friday afternoon. The senior and freshman then faced Teah Chavez and Luciana Perry out of Ohio State in the quarterfinals. After falling behind 1-6 in the first set, the Scarlet and Black duo rallied from behind 6-2, [10-8] to clinch a spot in the semifinals.
Chan and Turley will take on Furman’s Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren at 2:30 on Saturday with a ticket to the postseason on the line.

Back at the Aztec Tennis Center, the rest of the Aztecs competed in the SDSU Fall Classic, picking up two wins in doubles competition and three in singles.
Teja Tirunelveli and Vesa Gjinaj took their matchup against North Carolina Central’s Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Mariana Zottoli by a score of 62 while Ninon Martinache and Jayna Clemens cruised to a 6-1 win over Michelle Kleynerman and Alex Ackman of Missouri.
In singles, Clemens downed Saint Mary’s Sofia Daryaie 6-1, 6-1, Gjinaj defeated Missouri’s Gian Octa 6-3, 6-1 and Martinache earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Colorado State’s Sorcha Caves.
Tirunelveli, Varul and Alogo each retired their singles matches.
Day two of the SDSU Fall Classic will get underway at 9 a.m., beginning with doubles.
