SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (7-8-2, 3-2-2) lost to California Baptist 2-1 (9-3-3, 4-2-1) after the Lancers scored the game-winner in the 89th minute. The Aztecs scored first, but the Lancers scored a pair of second half goals to earn the victory.

“Credit to California Baptist. They are a fantastic team and worthy champion,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. “They never gave up and made it hard on us all night.”

With the loss, the Aztecs will now play in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed match in the first round of the WAC Tournament next Sunday.

Terence Okoeguale scored SDSU’s goal, connecting from long distance in the 29th minute, finishing an assist from Juan Zepeda.

Three minutes later, Okoeguale had another good look, but CBU’s goalkeeper made a diving save to his left.

After outshooting the Lancers 7-3 in the first half, CBU held a 9-7 advantage in the second half. They knotted the match at one goal apiece in the second minute of the second half on a Tizian Marth goal.

The Lancers’ William Lawson put home the game-winner at the 88:14 mark when he finished an Alexander Cruz assist.

This was just the second time SDSU has lost a WAC match since joining the conference as an affiliate member last year.
