Aztecs Host Santa Clara Wednesday for Field Trip Game

The San Diego State women’s basketball team hosts Santa Clara Wednesday at 11 a.m., the first of SDSU’s two Field Trip games. The game will be broadcast locally on KUSI and simulcast on the Mountain West Network.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team hosts Santa Clara Wednesday at 11 a.m., the first of SDSU’s two Field Trip games. The game will be broadcast locally on KUSI and simulcast on the Mountain West Network.

 

Aztec Tidbits

  • 25-30 local elementary schools are expected to be in attendance. The Aztecs set a single game attendance record at one of their Field Trip games last year when 6,906 attended SDSU’s game vs. Bethesda.
  • The Aztecs are coming off a 78-48 win over Cal State Bakersfield Saturday. After allowing 24 points in the first quarter, SDSU gave up just 24 more for the rest of the game. At one point, the Aztecs didn’t allow the Roadrunners to score a field goal for a 20-minute span.
  • Nala Williams had 25 points and 10 rebounds (seven offensive). She became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era (since 1999) to have at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and three three-pointers in a game.
  • The Aztecs average margin of victory over the last three games is 37.0 points, their largest margin of victory in a three-game stretch since November of 2022.
  • SDSU is averaging 88.0 points over their last three games, their most points per game in a three-game stretch since January of 1992 (88.6 points).
  • Their 79.3 points per game on the year leads the Mountain West.
  • SDSU is averaging 10.5 made threes per game, the sixth most in the nation.
  • The Aztecs have made at least 10 threes in three of their four games. They hit 10 or more just four times last year, while being the highest scoring SDSU team in 30 years.

Player Notes

Nala Williams (Senior, Guard, Long Beach, Calif.)

  • Nala Williams became the first Aztec in the Mountain West era (since 1999) to have at least 25 points, 10 rebounds and three three-pointers in a game.
  • In her career, she has 1,540 points, 520 rebounds, 353 assists and 314 steals in 96 games.
  • Her 315 career steals are the fourth most in the nation across all divisions among active players.
  • She has scored in double-digits in 76 of her 96 career games and has scored 20 or more 30 times. Her career-high is 42.
  • Nala Williams is shooting 55.8% from the floor this year.
  • Last year at Cal State Dominguez Hills, Nala Williams was named the DII National Player of the Year and the National Defensive Player of the Year.
  • She helped her school go 36-2 and make the national title game.
  • She had 152 steals last year (4.0/game), which was the most in the nation across all divisions. No one else had more than 140 steals and only three other players had 130 or more.
  • She shot a career-best 40% from three last year and made 76 three-pointers.

 

Naomi Panganiban (Sophomore, Guard, San Diego, Calif.)

  • Naomi Panganiban has 11 assists and just one turnover in 95 minutes so far this season.
  • Panganiban was named to the preseason All-Mountain West Team.
  • Last year, she was named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team and to the Mountain West All-Tournament Team.
  • Her 10.3 points per game led all MW true freshmen last season.
  • She averaged 12.3 points in the Mountain West Tournament and scored 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting in 46 minutes in the championship game.
  • She was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week three times, tied with Nat Martinez for the school record.
  • Playing for the Philippine National Team at the FIBA Asia Cup, she tied for the team lead in scoring (13.2 ppg) despite being the youngest on the team.
  • The Philippines clinched a spot in the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament for the first time ever.

 

Nat Martinez (Sophomore, Guard, San Leandro, Calif.)

  • Nat Martinez had five assists last Saturday vs. CS Bakersfield.
  • She was named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team a year ago.
  • She shot 41.9% from three last year, the fifth best in a single season in program history.
  • She was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week three times, tied with Naomi Panganiban for the school record.

 

Kennedy Lee (RS Junior, Forward, Louisville, Ky.)

  • Kennedy Lee set career highs for points (24) and three-pointers (7) last Wednesday vs. CSUN.
  • Her seven made three-pointers tied for the second most ever made by an Aztec.
  • She became the first Aztec to make seven threes in a game since Jan. 15, 2022 (Mallory Adams).
  • She became the fifth Aztec to make seven threes in a game under head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson.

 

Alyssa Jackson (RS Sophomore, Forward, Fairfield, Calif.)

  • Alyssa Jackson had a career-high three assists vs. CSUN last Wednesday.
  • She scored a career-high 11 points on 4-for-4 shooting vs. CSUSM in the home opener.
  • Jackson redshirted last year after playing every game in 2023-24 as a true freshman.

 

Kaelyn Hamilton (Sophomore, Guard, McKinney, Texas)

  • Kaelyn Hamilton tied a career-high with 11 points vs. UCLA in the season opener.
  • She also set new career-highs for made field goals (4) and made threes (3).

 

Kendall Mosley (Freshman, Guard, Prosper, Texas)

  • Kendall Mosley was named the preseason Mountain West Freshman of the Year.
  • She scored 11 points with three three-pointers vs. CSUSM last Saturday.
  • She was the 2024-25 6A MVP in Texas.
  • She was named the District 5-6A Offensive MVP each of the last two years.

 

CJ Latta (Sophomore, Guard, Paul, Idaho)

  • CJ Latta made 26 starts as a freshman at Utah State last year.
  • Her 9.1 points per game were the third most in the Mountain West by a true freshman, trailing only current teammate Naomi Panganiban (10.3) and former USU teammate Taliyah Logwood (9.7).
  • She led the Aggies in three-pointers (56), assists (2.3), and assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.28).
  • She ranked third all-time at USU with six games of 15 points or more as a freshman.

 

Opponent Notebook (Santa Clara)

  • The Broncos are 3-2 on the year.
  • In their last two games, they beat Wyoming by 31 points and then lost to Arizona State by five.
  • They went 14-17 last year.
  • They were picked to finish fifth in the WCC preseason poll.
  • Sophie Glancy and Maia Jones were named to the preseason All-WCC Team.
