Aztecs Wrap Up SDSU Fall Classic

San Diego State women’s tennis completed the final day of the SDSU Fall Classic on Sunday, where the three competing Aztecs combined for two wins in singles and one in doubles competition.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis completed the final day of the SDSU Fall Classic on Sunday, where the three competing Aztecs combined for two wins in singles and one in doubles competition. The team recorded a total of 12 victories during the three-day tournament, landing Vesa Gjinaj, Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache in the final rounds of their respective flights on Sunday.

In doubles competition, Clemens and Martinache came out on top in the Red flight, defeating Missouri’s Mary Brumfield and Andrea Artimedi by a score of 6-2.

In singles action, Clemens won the White flight after taking the final match 6-2, 6-0 over San Diego’s Maria Shmakova, while Gjinaj claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win against Mariana Zottoli out of North Carolina Central to win the Grey flight.

The Fall Classic concludes the team’s fall schedule. Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, however, will represent San Diego State at the NCAA Doubles Championships in Orlando, Fla. beginning on Nov. 19 after winning the ITA Conference Masters doubles title on Saturday.
