SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men’s tennis opened up competition at the Jack Kramer Classic and Hagedorn Hidden Duals on Friday, kicking off the final weekend of the fall slate with a combined seven wins.
At the Jack Kramer Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, the Aztecs faced the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara, going 2-0 in doubles and 3-1 in singles.
Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Aleksi Lofman earned a 6-2 victory over Lorenzo Brunkow and Charlie Underwood while Denis Maijorov and William Kleege downed Carson Lee and Karel Fromel, 6-4.
In singles, Gonzalez Fitzmaurice took down Lee in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Lofman bested Underwood 6-3 in the first before clinching a win with a 7-5 second set. Maijorov picked up the final win of the day, taking his matchup against Fromel by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Kleege took his first set 7-6 over Brunkow, but ultimately fell 5-7, 3-6.
Over at the Hogan Tennis Center, the Scarlet and Black went 2-0 in doubles, but came up short in singles.
Lars Johann and Imran Daniel Hazli battled Arizona’s Oskar Jansson and Matthias Uwe Kask in doubles, coming out on top 7-6 (12-10). Playing alongside San Diego’s Timo Barthes in a split team, Brock Anderson downed LSU’s Rudy Ceccon and Alessio Vasquez 6-4.
Johann faced Jansson in singles, winning the first set 7-6 (7-5) before dropping the second 1-6 and retiring in the third at 0-3. Anderson took on Arizona’s Alejandro Arcila, falling 2-6, 0-6 to the Wildcat. Hazli fell in three sets against LSU’s Ceccon, who took the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Both groups will be back in action tomorrow. Schedules to be announced.
