Aztecs Head to UNLV and San Jose State

SDSU will play at UNLV on Thursday night and San Jose State on Sunday.

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (5-2-4, 1-0-2 MW) is back on the road this week. The Aztecs will head to UNLV (3-7-3, 1-1-2 MW) at 7 p.m. on Thursday night and San Jose State (1-8-3, 0-1-3 MW) at noon on Sunday. Both matches will appear on the Mountain West Network.

Last week, the Aztecs extended their unbeaten streak to eight matches, playing to a 1-1 draw at Fresno State on Thursday night. Lily Boudet scored SDSU’s goal in the match shortly after halftime.

UNLV has earned points in both of its home conference matches by tying San Jose State 2-2 and beating Fresno State 1-0. The Rebels played at Wyoming in a 1-1 draw and lost 1-0 at Colorado State last week. UNLV lost 3-2 to UC San Diego and beat UC Riverside 3-0 this season while SDSU beat the Roadrunners 4-0 and tied the Tritons 0-0.

San Diego State has a 21-10-2 record against UNLV all-time with a 14-6-2 mark since Mike Friesen took over the helm of the program. The Aztecs are 8-6-1 when playing at UNLV and 6-3-1 when playing in Las Vegas under Friesen. SDSU has won each of the last three matchups including last year in the regular season and MW Tournament.

San Jose State had its only result of non-conference in a 2-1 win at UC Davis on August 21. The Spartans tied their first three conference matches (2-2 at UNLV and 1-1 at Nevada and against New Mexico) before falling 1-0 at Grand Canyon last Sunday. The Aztecs opened conference play with a 2-1 win at GCU. SJSU will play at Boise State on Thursday ahead of Sunday’s match.

The Aztecs are 16-2-4 all-time against San Jose State. SDSU hasn’t lost to SJSU since 2015 and is 14-1-4 against the Spartans under Mike Friesen including a 5-2-2 road record in San Jose during the Friesen era. SDSU won 2-1 in 2024 in San Diego.

Following this week’s action, San Diego State finally returns to the SDSU Sports Deck for home matches against Boise State on Thursday, October 16, at 7 p.m. and Utah State on Sunday, October 19 at noon. Admission is free to all matches on the SDSU Sports Deck, and the Utah State match will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
