LAS VEGAS – All four Aztecs representing San Diego State women’s tennis at the Mountain West Fall Qualifier remain in the main draw headed into the third day of competition after posting two wins in doubles and three in singles on Friday. Gloria Alogo/Ninon Martinache and Jo-Yee Chan/Vessa Turley will advance to the doubles semifinal round while Chan also continues on in singles.
The four Aztecs continue their fight for an automatic bid to the ITA Conference Masters, earning their spot in the doubles bracket with two 8-6 victories on Friday. Martinache and Alogo defeated Nevada’s Kennedy Robinson and Amahee Charrier before Chan and Turley took down Paula Schaefer and Tereza Polakova of Boise State.
Doubles semifinals will take place on Saturday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. PT.
Chan is moving on to day three in singles as well after two gritty three-set victories on the second day. In the round of 16, the senior came from behind to grab a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Grand Canyon’s Isabella Crossman. Later in the afternoon, Chan posted her third win of the day with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 quarterfinal win against Arianna Vanhouweling of Air Force. The Aztec will appear in the semifinals at 10:30 a.m. PT.
Martinache also made it through the round of 16 after taking down Grand Canyon’s Gala Arangio 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. The senior then came up just short of a semifinal bid, falling in a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) thriller against Tereza Polakova from Boise State.
Alogo made an appearance in the round of 16, but was bested 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 by Polakova.
