LAS VEGAS – The Aztecs’ stay in the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Fall Qualifier main draw came to an end on Saturday with Lars Johann/Aleksi Lofman and Imran Daniel Hazli/Brock Anderson falling in the doubles quarterfinal round.
After a successful opening day in which both San Diego State doubles teams advanced out of the round of 16 with Johann/Lofman taking down New Mexico’s Dabas/Labitzke, 8-7 (7-4), and Hazli/Anderson earning an 8-6 win over Loizas/Berard of Grand Canyon, the Aztecs were unable to secure a spot in day three of main draw competition.
On Saturday morning, Johann and Lofman faced Nevada’s Rayen Hermassi and Axel Huysmans, coming up short 8-4 to the Wolfpack. Hazli and Anderson were then bested 8-2 by Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson of Boise State.
Next up, the Aztecs will head back to San Diego for the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships, hosted by the University of San Diego at the Hogan Tennis Center from Oct. 9-12.
