SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State men’s golf team wraps up its fall competition at the Marquette Intercollegiate, which begins Sunday and will be played on Erin Hills Golf Course in Erin Hills, Wisconsin. The 54-hole event will be contested over three days with 18 holes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday on the par-72, 7,551-yard course.

The 14-team field includes the Aztecs, along with host Marquette, Chattanooga, Clemson, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, Oral Roberts, Rutgers, Siena, Texas A&M, UAB, UC Davis and Wisconsin.

SDSU head coach Ryan Donovan has slated a starting 5 of seniors Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) and Tyler Kowack (San Diego/Canyon Crest Academy), junior Nathan Sampson (Temecula, Calif.), sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) and junior Phillip Kench (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS), while sophomore Teddy Gardner (San Francisco) will be competing as an individual.

Sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) leads San Diego State in scoring at 71.33 in his lone tournament. Sampson is second among the Aztecs who have started this season at 73.33, while Chokprajakchat (73.83), Kowack (74.17) and Hiryama (74.17) round out the top 5. Kench (T-10th) and Gardner (T-43rd) each competed as individuals for SDSU in Utah last month, and are averaging 72.00 and 76.33, respectively.

San Diego State will tee off at 9 a.m. CT (7 a.m. PT) Sunday along with Oral Roberts and Rutgers. Monday’s second round and Sunday’s third round will each be based on previous round scores.

This will be the first time the Aztecs have competed at the Marquette Invitational.

Erin Hills G.C. is routed over the kettle moraine areas left by glaciers, surrounded by wetlands and a river, with ground that consists of glacial till of varied composition of sand and small rock. In an unconventional decision for a course in Wisconsin, the architects routed the fairways around contours of the property and provide a firm playing surface that plays shorter than its length on the scorecard. Golf Digest has listed Erin Hills as the 10th best public course in the United States and the 48th greatest course overall. It has hosted two major championships, including the men’s 2017 U.S. Open and the women’s 2025 U.S. Open. Additionally, the 2011 U.S. Amateur was contested at Erin Hills G.C.

The Aztecs will kick of their spring championship season, Jan. 26-28, at the Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village, California.
