COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- San Diego State football’s Gabe Plascencia (Oakland, Calif.) has been named the Old Trapper Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. It is the first career weekly award for Plascencia and the second by an Aztec this season (Dalesean Staley MW defensive player of the week on Sept. 22).

The MW Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year, Plascencia helped the Aztecs (6-1, 3-0 MW) to a 23-0 win at Fresno State on Saturday. The left-footed kicker accounted for 11 of SDSU’s 23 points, tying a career high with three field goals and two PATs. Plascencia made a 42-yard field goal with 12:20 left in the second quarter to put San Diego State up, 10-0, and then hit a 50-yarder with 1:33 left in the half to make it a 13-0 game. He finally nailed a 27-yarder early in the fourth to put the Aztecs up by two touchdowns and 2-point conversions at 16-0.

Plascencia now has the Mountain West record and SDSU record for most consecutive field goals made with 25. He also kicked off five times with three touchbacks. Off his five kickoffs, the Bulldogs average starting field position was the 24.2-yard line.

On the season, Plascencia has made all 13 field goal attempts and all 21 PATs. This season, Plascencia ranks in a tie for the FBS lead in field goal percentage (100.00) and PAT percentage (100.00). He’s also second in the Mountain West in made field goals per game (1.86, 11th in FBS) and kickoff average (64.59, T-11th in FBS), tied for second in points per game (8.57, T-28th in FBS) and total points (60, T-40th in FBS), third in total field goals made (13, T-19th in FBS), kickoff touchback percentage (79.31, 25th in FBS), field goal attempts per game (1.86, T-30th in FBS) and total field goal attempts (13, T-42nd in FBS), tied for fifth in total kickoff touchbacks (23, T-75th in FBS), ninth in total kickoffs (29) and tied for 10th in points responsible for per game (8.57).

Plascencia is 30-for-31 on field goal attempts for his career. The 96.8 percentage is the highest mark in NCAA FBS history (min. 1.2 field goals per game and 30 made field goals).

Off to their best start since 2021, SDSU plays host to Wyoming at 4 p.m. PT Saturday for Homecoming.
