TEMPE, Ariz. – The San Diego State men’s tennis team’s stay at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships has come to an end after the fourth day of competition. William Kleege and Denis Maijorov advanced into the doubles quarterfinals, but came up short of a semifinal appearance.
The Aztec duo downed USC’s Nathaniel Suh and Mason Bul 8-4 in a Sunday afternoon contest, earning a spot in the quarterfinal round, but ultimately fell 8-3 to UC Irvine’s Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels.
Brock Anderson, Aleksi Lofman, Imran Daniel Hazli and Lars Johann also competed in the doubles round of 16. Anderson and Lofman battled in a tiebreaker against ASU’s Ofek Shimanov and Jelani Sarr, but came up short 8-7 (7-4) to the Sun Devils. Hazli and Johann were tripped up 8-5 by Sasha Rozin and Zoran Ludoski out of Arizona.
Next up, the Aztecs will head to Los Angeles for the Jack Kramer Collegiate Classic on Oct. 31.
