SAN DIEGO – Denis Maijorov and William Kleege are advancing to the doubles quarterfinals at the 68th Annual Men’s Intercollegiate Championships after a Round of 16 victory on Friday. The Aztecs will play again at the Hogan Tennis Center on Saturday.
After making it through the qualifying round with a 6-4 win over Cooper Han and Ethan Schiffman of Northwestern University, the duo faced Loyola Marymount’s Cyrus Ahmad and Alexander Nothdurft, earning a 6-4 victory over the Lions to move on to the quarterfinals.
Kleege also competed in the first round of the main draw in singles competition. The Aztec went up against Roman Venger of Utah State, falling 6-1, 6-2.
Next up, Maijorov and Kleege will take on Grand Canyon’s Andreas Loizas and Tristan Berard at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
