SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s basketball team will open the season against UCLA at the Honda Center in Anaheim in the inaugural Orange County Hoops Classic on November 3.

Last year’s Big Ten champions, the Bruins went 34-3 last season, earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Final Four where they lost to UConn, the eventual national champion. They return four starters including center Lauren Betts who was named the national Defensive Player of the Year last season.

This is the 31st meeting all-time between the two programs, but the first since 2013. The Aztecs will face two Big Ten teams in November as they also will play Penn State at the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas Nov. 24. SDSU beat Wisconsin in their lone game against the Big Ten last season.

“We are proud to provide a stage for these college basketball student-athletes to shine as they compete in the inaugural Orange County Hoops Classic,” said Eric Bresler, Senior Vice President of Entertainment, OC Sports & Entertainment, which is developing OCVIBE. “Hosting this event marks a milestone for Honda Center at OCVIBE, as part of our commitment to bringing diverse, high-energy sporting events to Anaheim and the greater Southern California region, while highlighting women in sports.”

Tickets go on sale on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com.

The Aztecs won 25 games last year and took home the Mountain West Tournament championship. The full schedule will be released later this week.
