SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women’s soccer team (5-2-3, 1-0-1 MW) starts October with a road match at Fresno State (4-3-3, 1-1-0 MW) at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. It will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

Last week, the Aztecs opened conference play with a 2-1 win at Grand Canyon on Thursday with goals from Emma Fuller and Mia Lane. On Sunday, Alexis Leath scored in the 83rd minute to put San Diego State up 1-0 over Colorado College but the Tigers were able to score to finish with a 1-1 draw. The Aztecs are tied with Boise State, Utah State and UNLV atop the Mountain West standings with 1-0-1 records, but SDSU holds the top spot as its .650 overall winning percentage is the best of those four teams.

Fresno State began their Mountain West season with a 3-0 win at Nevada on Thursday before falling 1-0 at UNLV on Sunday. The Bulldogs were unbeaten in their final three non-conference matches with a 3-0 win at Texas Southern, a 4-0 win at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and a 1-1 tie against Oregon State. Fresno State fell 4-1 at Cal State Bakersfield on September 4 while SDSU defeated the Roadrunners 1-0 on the SDSU Sports Deck on August 17.

San Diego State has won 16 of its 23 matchups with the Bulldogs with two ties. SDSU came out on top in six of the last eight meetings including each of the last three years. Since Mike Friesen took the helm for the 2007 season, the Aztecs are 10-3-2 against Fresno State.

San Diego State has a bye this weekend before two more road matches next week at UNLV on Thursday, October 9, at 7 p.m. and at San Jose State on Sunday, October 12, at noon. Both matches will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
