Aztecs Stumble at UC Riverside 2-0

The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-4-0) fell at UC Riverside (2-2-1) 2-0 Monday evening. The Aztecs outshot the Highlanders 19-12 and 16-5 in the second half but managed just one shot on goal.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-4-0) fell at UC Riverside (2-2-1) 2-0 Monday evening. The Aztecs outshot the Highlanders 19-12 and 16-5 in the second half but managed just one shot on goal.

Both Highlanders’ goals came in the first half. The first was at the seven-minute mark when Adrian Diaz scored on assists from Edward Castro and Jona Martinez.

UC Riverside extended their lead in the 21st minute when Castro finished an Eric Martinez assist.

SDSU’s Josh Lucas, Rommee Jaridly and Stephan Moreira each had at least three shots with Moreira putting the only Aztec shot on goal.

Lucas had a pair of good looks in the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net.

In the 87th minute, Juan Zepeda nearly headed home a corner kick but missed just high and left.

STAT OF THE MATCH
The Aztecs had 16 shots in the second half after having just three in the first half.

THE NOTE 
Following the loss, the Aztecs are now 5-2-1 in their last eight road matches, dating back to last season.
