SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women’s tennis closed out the third day of the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships on Saturday, hosted by the University of San Diego. Jo-Yee Chan recorded a victory in the singles quarterfinal round, but her stay in the main draw came to an end in the semifinals.
After a 7-5, 6-2 win over USC’s Simone Kay on Friday, Chan faced fellow Aztec Gloria Alogo in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Chan won in straight sets by a score of 6-0, 6-4. Advancing to the semifinals, Chan then took on Krisha Mahendran of USC. After falling 6-1 in the first set, the senior bounced back to take the second set 6-3, but ultimately retired the match at 6-5 due to injury.
Ninon Martinache and Vessa Turley made an appearance in the doubles semifinals, but the Aztecs came up short 6-4 to Nevada’s Maria Silvia Costache and Marlene Foerster.
Saturday’s action wraps up San Diego State’s stay in the main draw. Next up, the Aztecs head to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Fall Qualifier, beginning on Oct. 2.
