TULSA, Okla. – San Diego State’s Aleksi Lofman and Lars Johann each made it through the first pre-qualifying round in both singles and doubles at the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday. With three wins on the day, the Aztecs advance to Sunday’s second round competition.
In his first victory as an Aztec, Lofman took down Georgia Tech’s Gianluca Carlini early on Saturday morning. The junior defeated Carlini in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Johann will join Lofman in the second round after a 7-5, 6-3 win over Mehdi Sadaoui of Miami.
After falling 6-7 (7-9) in a tight first set against NC State’s William Manning and Charlie Camus in doubles competition, the Aztecs bounced back to earn a tiebreak victory, 6-3, [10-8].
Sunday’s action is set to get underway at 6 a.m. PT as Lofman takes on Pedro Cressoni of East Tennessee State and Johann faces off against No. 21 Kevin Edengren out of Florida. The Aztecs will then compete against Rice’s Yair Sarouk and Kabeer Kapasi in doubles at 2 p.m. PT.
