SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State men’s soccer team (3-5-0) shutout Yale (0-4-1) 2-0 on the SDSU Sports Deck Monday evening. The Aztecs outshot the Bulldogs 14-6 and scored both of their goals off corner kicks.
“We definitely needed that win,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. “I thought we had been on the wrong side of some luck, but in sports and in life you make your own luck and tonight we had an unbelievable start and finally were able to capitalize on it with a goal.”
SDSU’s first goal came in just the third minute when Christian Engmann headed in a Lleyton Imparato corner kick. It was Engmann’s third goal of the year and Imparato’s third assist, both lead the team.
The Aztecs scored an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Baptiste Boit finished a Carson Ballagh corner.
Goalkeeper Vincent Fournier, who was making his second career start, secured his first career shutout.
