Aztecs Win Four on Day One of Wildcat Invite

San Diego State men’s tennis has officially kicked off its fall season, completing day one of the Wildcat Invite at the University of Arizona on Friday.

TUCSON, Ariz. – San Diego State men’s tennis has officially kicked off its fall season, completing day one of the Wildcat Invite at the University of Arizona on Friday. Three Aztecs competed, combining for four wins on the day.

Brock Anderson, a junior transfer out of LSU, paired up with freshman William Kleege to take down Northern Arizona’s Jakub Volesky and Ivan Perisic. The duo pulled out a tight 7-6 (7) victory over the Lumberjacks. Sophomore Denis Maijorov competed alongside New Mexico’s Alberto Perez, earning a 6-2 victory over New Mexico State’s Ricardo Mercardo and Matias Rojas.

Anderson and Maijorov each picked up wins in singles competition as well. Anderson took the first set 6-4 over New Mexico State’s Holland Snell before falling 3-6 in the second. The third set came to a tiebreaker, which went the way of the Aztec, 7-6 (5). Maijorov took his match in straight sets, defeating NAU’s Vincent Vohl 7-6 (1), 6-3.

Kleege came up short to NAU’s Perisic, falling 6-4, 2-6, 6-7 (6).

The Aztecs will return to action on Saturday, beginning with doubles at 8:30 a.m. PT.
